Lady of the Expectation
Our Lady of Expectation portrays Mary in her late pregnancy, clothed in a simple garment, her hands open in humble acceptance of God’s plan. It is a tender image of hope, patience, and trust in God’s promise as she awaits the birth of Jesus.
The devotion to Our Lady of Expectation began in Spain, where Christians longed for the coming of Christ during Advent. Mary, carrying the Savior of the world, became a powerful symbol of joyful hope and trust in God’s timing.
This title of Mary invites us to walk with her in the season of waiting—whether during Advent or in our own lives when we long for God’s answer. She is especially loved as a patroness of expectant mothers, families awaiting new life, and all who wait with faith for God’s promises to unfold.
The Church celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Expectation on December 18, just one week before Christmas, as a reminder of the joyful anticipation of Christ’s birth.
This statue makes a beautiful gift for expecting mothers or a meaningful devotional piece during Advent, reminding us to embrace God’s plan with open hearts and hopeful trust.
