Lady of Perpetual Help
Our Lady of Perpetual Help is one of the most beloved Marian images in the Church, venerated for centuries as a source of comfort and protection. She is called “Perpetual Help” because Mary never stops interceding for her children—always ready to help us in our needs, both big and small.
The statue shows her holding the Child Jesus, who clings to His Mother in a moment of fear. One of His sandals dangles loose, a tender detail that reminds us how even the Son of God sought the safety of His Mother’s arms. Around them, the Archangels Michael and Gabriel hold the instruments of Christ’s Passion, gently foreshadowing the sacrifice to come. Mary’s gaze meets ours, inviting us to trust her as she points the way to her Son.
Devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a way of finding strength in times of difficulty, knowing we can run to her just as Jesus did. She is the patroness of the Redemptorists and of all who call on her with faith. Her feast is celebrated on June 27, a day to remember her promise to always be a mother who helps without fail.
