This statue is a faithful replica of the beloved Our Lady, Queen of China, enshrined at the Cathedral in Tainan City, Taiwan. Mary is beautifully portrayed in traditional Chinese royal garments, cradling the sleeping Baby Jesus close to her chest. This tender image reminds us that Our Lady is not only Queen, but also Mother — one who holds and protects us with the same loving care.
The devotion to Our Lady, Queen of China, blossomed in the early 20th century as Catholics sought Mary’s intercession in times of trial and uncertainty. In 1941, Pope Pius XII officially declared her the Patroness of China, affirming her role as a source of hope, unity, and maternal love for Chinese Catholics and for the faithful everywhere.
Every detail in the statue carries meaning:
-
Imperial robe and crown – honor her dignity as Queen, expressed in Chinese tradition.
-
Mary’s gentle embrace – shows her constant protection and her closeness to every child of God.
-
Sleeping Child Jesus – a symbol of peace, trust, and the gift of God’s Son entrusted to His Mother and to us.
Her feast is celebrated on the Saturday after the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a day of joy, comfort, and devotion.
Bringing this statue into your home is a beautiful way to honor Mary’s queenship while experiencing her tender love as Mother of us all.
