Unlike many ecclesiastical ornaments produced by Vatican goldsmiths, this iconic cross was created by Giuseppe Albrrizzi, a master artisan from Pavia, Italy.

     

    Albrrizzi humbly acknowledges that while he crafted the cross, its powerful design was conceived by his mentor, the late Antonio Vedele, a renowned Italian sculptor who passed away in 1997. The cross’s design captures the essence of Pope Francis’ mission—depicting Christ as the Good Shepherd, carrying the lost sheep with the Holy Spirit hovering above, symbolizing divine guidance and compassion.
