Sacred Heart Jesus - Immaculate Heart Mary
The Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the most cherished and enduring devotions in the Catholic Church, representing the boundless love, compassion, and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. This devotion centers on the Heart of Jesus as the source of His redemptive love—a heart that suffered, was pierced, and continues to burn with love for humanity.
Devotion to the Sacred Heart is a powerful reminder of Christ’s sacrifice and His desire to draw all souls closer to Him. Jesus revealed to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1675 His wish for a feast in honor of His Sacred Heart, to be celebrated on the Friday after the octave of Corpus Christi. This wish became a reality in 1856 when the Feast of the Sacred Heart was declared a universal feast by Pope Pius IX.
As St. John Paul II once said:
“This feast reminds us of the mystery of the love of God for the people of all times.”The Immaculate Heart of Mary is a powerful symbol of the Blessed Virgin’s pure love for God and her deep maternal compassion for all humanity. Her Heart, immaculate from sin and full of grace, reflects her unwavering “Yes” to the Father at the Annunciation, her loving cooperation with Jesus in His redemptive mission, and her faithful openness to the Holy Spirit.
This devotion invites us to enter into Mary’s interior life—a life marked by both immense joy and profound sorrow, yet lived in total fidelity to God’s will. Her Heart calls us to do the same: to love deeply, suffer faithfully, and remain devoted to the path of grace.
The Immaculate Heart of Mary was especially emphasized through the apparitions at Fatima, where Sister Lucia, one of the visionaries, received several revelations from Jesus and Mary about the importance of this devotion. Sister Lucia later wrote, “The Immaculate Heart of Mary is the way for us, God’s children, to reach Him.”
Mary’s Heart, like her Son’s, is wounded by blasphemy and indifference—but it is also open to our love and reparation. Honoring her Heart with sincere devotion offers us the chance to console her and draw nearer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
As visionary St. Jacinta said:
“Jesus wants the Heart of His Mother to be honored next to His own.”
