St Anthony Padua
“Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak.” – St. Anthony of Padua
Beloved around the world as the patron saint of lost things, St. Anthony of Padua (1195–1231) was also celebrated in his own time as a gifted preacher and teacher of the Gospel. Known as the “Hammer of Heretics”, he fearlessly defended the faith during an age when many were being led astray by false teachings.
More than just a preacher, St. Anthony left behind written “sermons” – not sermons in the modern sense, but thoughtful guides for fellow Franciscan friars. These writings gathered Scripture passages, insights, and vivid imagery from nature to help priests proclaim God’s Word with clarity and beauty. His words and life reflect his deep love for the Bible and his mission to bring people closer to Christ.
Because of his wisdom, holiness, and compassion, St. Anthony is remembered as one of the great saints of the Church. His feast day is joyfully celebrated on June 13, a time when the faithful honor his powerful preaching, his devotion to Scripture, and his intercession in finding what is lost – whether it be an item, a path in life, or faith itself.
Bring the story of St. Anthony into your home with this devotional piece, a reminder of his call to live the Gospel not only in words but through loving action.
